Face Lift : What you Need to Know
What every person on this planet seeks is to be happy and healthy. For many men and women, this also includes looking at themselves in the mirror and smiling at what they see. Of the many things you can do to make your appearance match your youthful inner self, cosmetic surgery abroad is an excellent option. A facelift surgery, for example, will help bring a fresher and more youthful look to your face and delivers results that go far beyond what you can expect from common injections, such as Botox. Depending on the area of the face you want to improve, there are different types of facelifts, such as neck lifts, mid and lower facelifts, full and mini facelifts.
What is a Face Lift ?
It is a surgical procedure that helps tighten sagging skin and wrinkles on the face and neck caused by either weight loss or ageing. With a facelift, you can significantly improve deep creases you may have along the nose that extend to the mouth, creases under the eyelids, fat that has either disappeared or fallen, jowls that are the result of loss of skin tone in the lower face, and double chin which is caused by excess fat deposits or loose skin under the jaw and chin (people with normal weight could also have that).
In short, any loss of the face’s youthful contours can be treated with a facelift and give you the much-desired rejuvenation you wish.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Facelift ?
Since the procedure is performed to remove ageing signs on the face, men and women of any age with visible signs of the ageing process can greatly benefit from a facelift*. Of course, they need to be in good health and, most importantly, have a healthy sense of realism in regards the procedure.
* Although the procedure is most commonly performed on patients between 40 and 75, a facelift can also benefit patients over 75, as well as those under 40 (if they show premature ageing signs).
The best candidates for a facelift are people with loose skin on the neck and face that could look much better if tightened up. It should also be noted that there are many factors that affect our skin, from the sun to stress and gravity, besides ageing. Consequently, the skin loses its tone and elasticity and begins to sag. That said, to be a good candidate for a facelift, you will also need to have some skin elasticity so that we can work on your face and deliver the best results. If you have all that, there is no reason why you can’t have a very successful facelift surgery with Cosmetic Surgery Cypus.
Tip: You can also combine a facelift with other procedures, such as a neck lift, nose job (rhinoplasty), brow lift, and eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or even cosmetic surgery procedures to the other areas of your body.
What to Do if you Have Decided to Have Facelift Surgery
i) Take Some Time Off
We always advise people that are considering a facelift to take a few weeks to think things through and talk to their family members, partner or friends. Doing so will allow them to make sure they have all the information they need and examine the reasons they want this surgery. In other words, we need our patients to reach an informed decision and not rush it before they make a final decision. The most important factor for cosmetic surgery abroad is to make sure you have the best surgeon.
ii) The Tests
You will need to undergo some tests so we can determine that you are fit for surgery. This will involve us taking blood for testing and review of your results by our anaesthetist, who will check how fit you are for anaesthesia, especially if it is your first time to have a surgery. We are careful to make sure you are suitable for your surgery abroad in advance and that we can deliver the results that you are looking for, so prior to travel we ask for a full medical history.
iii) Medical History
As with every surgery, abroad or not, we will take a full medical history. If you have any underlying medical issues or allergies, we would like to know. Many patients think that if they mention an allergy or a medical problem, they won’t be able to proceed with the facelift surgery. This is not always the case, so please be honest about your health. There are many factors that we need to take into consideration before we give the green light. For example, if you have blood clotting problems or hypertension (high blood pressure), we should know about it because these conditions increase the risk of complications. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t have the surgery. We just need to be informed of every medical issue you may have so we can create the best treatment protocol for you and decide whether this procedure will indeed benefit you.
What Can Affect the Healing Process
Over the counter remedies (i.e. ginseng) and prescription medication could affect the healing process so we always advise our patients to stop taking them. Our surgeon will give you detailed information as to what you can take and what you should avoid.
Smoking boosts your risk of complications and affects the healing of the wounds. If you smoke and you find it impossible to give it up, you will need to cut down to the minimum possible for 4 weeks, two weeks before and two weeks after the surgery. Now, if you see your facelift surgery as an opportunity to quit smoking, then we can recommend a smoking cessation programme for you.
How to Prepare for the Surgery
We will give you a comprehensive set of instructions to help you prepare for your surgery abroad. Please do not ignore any of them and follow any advice given to the letter. Your surgeon will go through the process from start to finish with you and answer all your questions.
Our patient coordinators will also be there for you, should you need any assistance or support, or have a concern about something so feel free to ask them anything. It’s important to us that you feel comfortable and have peace of mind that you are in excellent hands. If there is something you don’t understand, please don’t feel worried about asking the same thing more than once. We are here to help any way we can!
What to Expect After a Facelift Surgery Abroad ?
Your skin will look fresh and be tighter and firmer. Also, any wrinkles you had due to environmental factors (i.e. the sun and wind) will disappear. This means that you will look yourself in the mirror and see a younger looking ‘you’ which will improve your self-esteem and confidence for sure!
The effects of a facelift last a very long time. Chances are we will not need to see you for 10 years or more to maintain the excellent results you will have. We may not be able to stop the ageing process, but we can definitely defy it!
