A breast reduction procedure (sometimes known as mammoplasty or mammaplasty) is aimed at reducing the overall size and weight of your breasts, and can profoundly improve your self-esteem. At Cosmetic Surgery Cyprus & Turkey it is used equally for men and women.

For women after breast reduction surgery, you will be able to exercise more easily without the extensive support that you may currently use. You will also be able to wear the clothes that you have always wanted. The pain and discomfort you may have suffered from will disappear as a result of smaller, lighter breasts.

For men, it is the procedure to alleviate the symptoms of Gynecomastia, the swelling of the breast tissue caused by an imbalance of estrogen and testosterone. This can affect one or both breasts. It can also be used to reduce breast size in men when there is no medical reason for the increased breast size, other than carrying excess weight.

Breast reduction surgery is a very common procedure involving the removal of excess fat, skin, and glandular tissue. In women, a breast lift or mastopexy will be performed at the same time to reshape your breasts, re-position your nipples, and give your breasts a more youthful contour. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and takes approximately 3 hours.

Several techniques can be employed, depending on the size of your breasts and the desired outcome.

For women, the inverted T reduction is the most common method of breast reduction resulting in an anchor-shaped scar starting around the areola extending vertically and then horizontally across your natural breast crease.

Circumareolar reduction results in a small circular scar around the areola. This technique is only suitable when removing a small amount of tissue.

Once the procedure is complete the incisions are closed with stitches and your breasts are wrapped in a special supportive bandage. You will need to stay in hospital overnight.

In men, usually, when the patient suffers from Gynecomastia the procedure will be a combination of gland removal and liposuction; sometimes however the reduction can be effected by the use of liposuction alone. In both circumstances, the patient will remain in hospital overnight.

Breast Reduction and Recuperation

For women, we advise that you take one to two weeks off work, depending on the nature of your occupation, and what better way to recuperate than at a luxury hotel in either sunny Cyprus or cosmopolitan Istanbul in Turkey? For men, the procedure can be a lot less invasive, and return to work can be within the week, depending on the nature of the patient’s occupation. The stay in either Cyprus or Turkey may also be limited to only 4 to 5 days.

For both men and women scarring will fade in time and this can be accelerated with the use of silicon gel strips placed directly onto the wounds once the initial healing is complete.

Our surgeon will advise you when to gradually introduce your daily/weekly activities and exercise routines.
